Romania and Moldova – Renewable energy

Premier Energy Group entered the renewable energy sector in 2022 and has since steadily grown its operations through various acquisitions and developments.

Renewable energy

Premier Energy Group is one of the key players in the renewable energy sector in South-Eastern Europe in terms of managed operational capacity, while also being the largest manager of renewable electricity production, with over 1800 MW of renewable energy capacity either owned, managed, or under development, as well as continuous expansion plans, including battery energy storage systems.

We also offer services for renewable energy producers, such as power purchase agreements, balancing, dispatching, asset management, production forecasting, and market access services, as well as greenfield project development and project management for ready-to-build renewable energy projects.

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Europe’s Green Deal initiatives, our business strategy is focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility. With a significant renewable energy generation capacity in Romania and a solid presence in Moldova, we are committed to promoting the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Romania and Moldova - electricity

In April 2024, the Group completed the acquisition of Premier Energy Furnizare (formerly CEZ Vanzare), one of the main electricity suppliers in Romania.
In the Republic of Moldova, Premier Energy Group is the largest electricity distributor and supplier in the country, serving approximately one million consumption points and covering over 70% of the population. With a presence in 16 districts of Moldova, in the autonomous region of Gagauzia, and in the capital city Chisinau, Premier Energy Distribution is the most important private operator of the national electricity distribution system.

Electricity supply in Romania

As a result of this transaction, Premier Energy Group became the fourth-largest electricity supplier in Romania, significantly strengthening its local position by adding a portfolio of approximately 1.4 million electricity and natural gas customers. This expansion brought the Group’s total customer base to around 2.2 million energy consumers in Romania and Moldova.

Electricity supply in Moldova

We are the largest electricity distributor and supplier in the Republic of Moldova, serving approximately 70% of the population, with nearly 1 million consumption points and a market share of over 75% in the electricity supply sector.

Electricity distribution in Moldova

Our electricity distribution network spans approximately 36.000 km, covering 16 districts and the capital city, Chisinau, making us one of the two electricity distributors in the country.

Romania – Natural gas

Premier Energy Group became the third-largest gas distributor and supplier in Romania in 2014, according to the Romanian National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). Natural gas distribution extends to both households and non-households customers and on the other part, the supply activity is focused on customers in the concession network and industrial customers outside its concession network.
At the beginning of 2025, Premier Energy Romania separated its natural gas supply and distribution operations to comply with European regulations. Following this unbundling, Premier Energy continued as the natural gas supplier, while NeoGas Grid became the company responsible for gas distribution.

Gas distribution

The natural gas distribution network is expanding both to household and non-household customers. In Romania, the Group holds 136 distribution concessions, of which 21 are greenfield. The concessions are located around Bucharest as well as in the southern and western regions of Romania, with the Group operating a distribution network of almos 4,000 km. As part of its network expansion process, Premier Energy Group aims to increase its length by approximately 400 km by the end of 2026.

Focused on the quality of its pipelines, the vast majority of capital expenditures have been allocated to pipelines made of polyethylene 100, a material that makes approximately 80% of the network compatible with a potential future hydrogen distribution. At the same time, modernization efforts have reduced defects and gas leaks.

Gas supply

Premier Energy Group supplies gas to both household and non-household free-market customers. As a component of its “business-to-business” sales activity to key account and middle-market customers, it also sells gas to customers who are connected to other distribution networks or directly to the national transport system.
